The competitive section of Roll & Skate Leuven has a long history. The club was founded by sisters Annie and Josette Lambrechts. Both were among the world’s best in speed skating for many years. Since the club’s inception, our competitive skaters have consistently delivered outstanding performances at both national and international level. Bart Swings has now been a fixture among the top skaters for several years, as has Jason Suttels, and new home-grown talent is already knocking on the door.
With the arrival of ‘roller skates’ or ‘inline skates’ in the 1990s, our skaters had no choice but to switch from traditional roller skates to the faster inline skates with 5, and now 4 or even 3 wheels in a row. Since then, speed skating has effectively ceased to exist; all competitions are now held on inline skates.
